Less-awesome than a 911 but still pretty damn cool is a 2CV rally car.

The Bill Thomas Cheetah. Thomas was a tuner of Chevrolets, and intended for the Cheetah to be a rival to the Shelby Cobra. The Cheetah's engine was situated far behind the front suspension, so much so that the transmission yoke connects directly to the rear differential yoke by way of a u-joint - no drive shaft at all. Unfortunately, having the engine so far back also meant the heat would build up in the cabin, and some drivers suffered heat exhaustion while racing; hood vents and a larger radiator were added later to dissipate the heat from the engine compartment. Also, the rear suspension would try to kill you if you accelerated too hard (trailing arms would flex out and the rear tires would go toe-in), BUT that's ok because once you were around the corner the Cheetah's 377ci FI SBC engine would haul you down to the next corner faster than a 427 Cobra.
